Home made hay

I bought my hubby a traditional wood scythe  for Christmas in 2008 and he decided to see how feasible it was to hand-cut hay for our cows.

He cut an area about 30x10m and collected the dry grass which was piled up on the lee side of the tank we have to water our orchard.

He covered the hay with the remains of a second-hand garden shed that had blown down the day we put it up and held it down with a left over fence post.  This, I am told, is what farmers do.  They make use of what they have available.  Sounds good to me - waste not, want not and all that.

Young Padawan took it upon himself to be official cow feeder and got great joy out of doing so until Willie wombat decided that the hay was warm and dry and soft and that it made a nice place to live.
